February 2008: review by John Shaw
Many thanks for the Comedy Night last month in the Red Lion in Basingstoke. That
seems like an ideal venue - food and drink readily available and a room large
enough to accommodate the audience yet intimate enough to set up the right
atmosphere for both audience and performers.Danny Dawes clearly enjoyed working the audience as compere. Stan Stanley raised the energy level high from the moment he came on stage. I hadn't heard of Reeves Peterson before. As a writer, comedian and musician, he presented a cleverly crafted set - certainly someone I would like to see again.
It was good to meet your friend Nessie Flange. We seem to be of roughly the same age but she seems to have led a much more interesting and exciting life than I have. It was a pity she appeared only briefly. I suppose she saves her energy for the activities which she recounted so tastefully for us.
Milton Jones I knew from his radio work. He was even funnier live. He was obviously delighted to find someone in the audience even more weird than him. His surreal one-liners still keep resurfacing at odd moments.
Very different voices, but together providing a very satisfying evening's entertainment for a very appreciative audience.
Looking forward to your next event.
